Leduc County crops only 50 per cent harvested

Due to an extremely wet growing season, approximately 50 per cent of the crops in Leduc County have not yet been harvested.

“Leduc County council recognizes the struggles our local producers are facing. In addition to extremely wet conditions, which make it impossible to harvest crops, recreational-vehicle users are now riding over and damaging many of these crops,” says Mayor John Whaley.

Leduc County is launching a keep off the crops campaign to help raise awareness of local producers’ plight.

“Many people are unaware that crops are still in-field,” says Garett Broadbent, director of Agricultural Services with Leduc County. “Normally, crops have been harvested by now and these issues don’t arise; however, this is a unique situation and we need people to be aware that crops are still being harvested and may stay in-field until the spring.”

Leduc County is asking recreational vehicles users to stick to highways and ditches, where permitted, until further notice.
