Education Property Tax
Leduc County is required by legislation to bill and collect taxes on behalf of the Government of Alberta as well as the St. Thomas Aquinas and Elk Island school districts. While the County bills and collects school taxes, the municipality has no jurisdiction or control over school board operations or budgets.

Consistent with the Canadian Constitution, the school act provides that:

  • Individuals who are of Roman Catholic faith must direct their taxes in support of the separate Roman Catholic school board.
  • All other individuals must direct their taxes in support of the public school district.
  • Where two or more individuals own property, and one or more is of Roman Catholic faith, they must direct their taxes in support of both the public and separate school districts in proportion to their ownership.

School support status is reflected on property assessment notices and is shown as "undeclared" unless a Declaration of School Support is filled by the property owner.

Please note that any changes to school support will not take effect until the following calendar year.
