Canada Post Addressing Initiative
In early 2011, Canada Post started the process of implementing address changes in Leduc County, adopting what is known as municipal (or civic) addressing. This initiative will see current rural mailing addresses converted to municipal addresses, instead of rural route addresses (RR1, RR2), which have historically been used for mail delivery in rural areas.

Rual addressing is a standardized system which assigns an address to rural properties throughout a municipality to allow them to be quickly and easily identified by emergency response agencies (police, fire and ambulance), service providers and non-residents.

The address changes will ensure each customer will have a uniquely identifiable mailing adress, reflecting the customers physical location. Each address is unique to a specific property.

The following is an example of how mail will be addressed within the boundaries of Leduc County.
*Please note that subdivision names and local street names will not be used as part of the mailing address.

Address with local street name Mailing Address
190 Beau Vista Drive 50416 Range Rd. 245 190-50416 Range Rd. 245
Leduc County, AB
ANA NAN

Benefits to this new addressing system include...

  • Eliminating concern over duplication of family surnames and first initials, making it easier for companies to do business with Leduc County residents and businesses
  • Improved mail delivery
  • Accomodates online business transactions
  • Accomodates online filing of federal income tax returns
  • Supports the Canada Elections Act verification of residence
The first phase of this conversion took place on November 21, 2011. Phase one included the area around Nisku, Beaumont and New Sarepta (primarily division one and the northern parts of divisions two and three). Affected customers must use their Leduc County municipal address with their new postal code (given by Canada Post). Customers will receive free mail redirection for one year and an update to their drivers license at no charge.

Older group mailboxes will be replaced by community mailboxes by November 28, 2011. This will ensure that every available address has its own unique mailbox with a physical location that makes it more convenient to do business.
