On October 5, 2010, Leduc County Council adopted the North Pigeon Lake Area Structure Plan (ASP). The plan area includes all of that part of the Pigeon Lake watershed (drainage area) which lies in Leduc County, as well as some lands outside of the watershed boundary. The focus of the plan is to integrate the protection of water quality and quantity with future development.
The North Pigeon Lake ASP will be implemented differently in different parts of the plan area. Landowners wishing to subdivide or develop in the Preservation Area, Agricultural Area or Lakeshore Conservation area may apply to the County using its standard procedures. For those wishing to undertake clustered development, the plan requires the preparation of an Outline Plan. In the Resort Recreation Area, landowners will be required to prepare a Local Area Structure Plan in order to proceed with their projects. The North Pigeon Lake ASP has been an eighteen- month process that involved four public meetings and several drafts of the Plan document. Several studies were completed as part of the preparation for writing the Plan.
