In fall 2009, the Town of Beaumont and Leduc County embarked on a Joint Growth Study (JGS). This study was to provide direction for comprehensive planning of future growth in the targeted area.
As the Town of Beaumont is one of the fastest growing communities in the capital region and the County was sensing interest for new development near Beaumont, both municipalities felt that it was appropriate and necessary to undertake such initiative. Both the Town of Beaumont and Leduc County have recognized that these growth pressures must be better understood and organized so they can be managed in a sustainable and efficient manner.
To meet the desired outcomes of the study, the steering committee retained the services of Stantec Consulting Ltd. to act as the project consultant. Under the direction of staff from both municipalities and the steering committee, Stantec provided professional services.
The growth study process encompassed several steering committee meetings as well as two public events. After several months of discussion and analysis, both municipalities decided in July 2011 to receive as information the report with the findings and recommendations from the consultant.
Prior to making any decision on the JGS, Leduc County decided that it would be beneficial to engage in a discussion about growth with the other municipalities in the capital region. This dialogue began in 2012.
