Mayor and division four councillor John Whaley came from England to Leduc County nearly 20 years ago, where he and his wife Fiona, with their two daughters, settled into a property just east of Calmar.

Afterwards he continued with his career as an agricultural producer, managing a productive hog and grain farming enterprise.

In 2000, after being involved with the community for more than ten years, his friends and family in the region encouraged him to run in a by-election for the division four councillor, which he won and which started his pursuit into municipal government. Ten years later, John is currently serving his fourth consecutive term on council, including five terms at the helm as mayor.

He and his fellow councillors look forward to productive years ahead, and bringing Leduc County closer together. “We are a team. You have seven individuals with seven points of view, but the end goal is the same,” Whaley says. “My vision is essentially to keep Leduc County first and foremost in everybody’s minds and make this a good place to live, work and play.”

Whaley is passionate and excited to be a part of this diverse and dynamic region. He remains committed to Leduc County residents and the betterment of the county and region as a whole.“Hopefully this time around I’m a bit wiser to situations,” Whaley says, “but at the end of the day the job is still to do the best for the residents of the county and the region.”

Mayor Whaley sits on the following Leduc County Council committees:
