Municipal Development Plan
Municipal Development Plans (MDP) describe a vision for a village, town, city, county or municipal district as a whole. They make broad statements about the values and goals of the community, the culture of the municipality and the future we see for ourselves. Policies are set out to manage how, when and where change will be accommodated if it occurs within that municipality.
The Municipal Government Act (MGA) requires that all municipalities with populations over 3500 adopt a municipal development plan. The plan must address future land uses, transportation systems, the planning of adjacent or embedded municipalities, municipal servicing and the protection of agricultural operations. It may also address environmental issues, financing of public infrastructure, economic development and social matters.

Leduc County's Municipal Development Plan was adopted in 1999, and most recently amended in 2010. Within the new regional context of the Capital Region Growth Plan being adopted and implemented as well as the changing economic landscape, it has become necessary to review and update the Municipal Development Plan. This should proceed soon, and when it happens, Leduc County will host several public meetings to reassess the values, goals, and priorities of residents, businessmen, and all stakeholders.
