2012 Interim budget approved

DEC. 7 - At the conclusion of their budget meetings this morning, Leduc County Council approved the 2012 interim municipal operating budget of approximately $34.4 million and a capital budget of $2.0 million, all funded from tax dollars. This interim budget reflects an increase to municipal tax dollars only not to exceed 3.52 per cent (increase in tax dollars required from the 2011 budget to the 2012 interim budget).

It is important to note that this strictly reflects a budget increase from municipal tax dollars only; this is not the tax rate nor is it the tax rate increase. This percentage also does not include any requisitions the county is required to collect as part of your tax notice (i.e. education taxes, which aren't known until spring).

The passing of the interim budget allows projects to proceed before the 2012 budget is given final approval and tax rates are set in early May. After Council sets the 2012 tax rates in May, notices will be mailed to all ratepayers.
