Leduc County Environmental Scholarship

Post-secondary students whose studies involve an environmental component are eligible to earn one of two $1000 scholarships.
 
Amount: Two (2) scholarships of $1000 each. 

Eligibility: Selection will be based on a written submission (500 to 1000 words) that represents the students education and training, and describes how their training will make a positive impact on the environment.

*Students must provide written confirmation of their enrolment and acceptance into a post-secondary education program with an environmental component.

George L. Saubak Memorial Fund Scholarship

About the Scholarship

Katie Dringenberg in her last will and testament bequest to give Leduc County the sum of $20,000.00 for a scholarship fund for a student who attains his or her high school diploma after attending school in the west end of the County and continues further education in the field of medicine (including nursing, dentistry, pharmacy or veterinary medicine).  The scholarship fund is to be known as the George L. Saubak Memorial Fund.

Amount to be Awarded 

The amount of the scholarship shall be determined by the interest accumulated on the scholarship donated during the preceding year.  This amount may vary from year to year depending on the interest rate which the fund had been invested at.  Only one award will be made in any one year.

Eligibility 

To be eligible, the student must:

have graduated from a high school in the western portion of the County including:

  • Calmar High School
  • Thorsby High School
  • Warburg High School

 have declared a major in the field of medicine including but not limited to:

  • nursing
  • dentistry
  • pharmacy
  • veterinary medicine

financial need will be considered in the awarding of the scholarship:

  • must not have previously received this scholarship

Application Procedure 

A personal letter of application for this scholarship must be sent to the Leduc County office by September 1, 2013, addressed to:

The letter of application must provide personal details, a transcript of grade twelve marks, proof of registration and any other information the applicant believes to be relevant.

Selection Process 

Applicants shall be short listed by Council or a committee thereof with the final selection to be done by the same.

Reception of the Scholarship 

The successful applicant will be invited to attend a suitable/appropriate location i.e. school awards presentation or a regular Council meeting to receive a cheque in the amount awarded.

It would be desirable for a family member (Saubak or Dringenberg) to be invited to make the presentation. If not available, then presentation by a member of Council.

Criteria for Review 

If circumstances change so that the award cannot be offered in accordance with the original terms and conditions, Council in liaison with the representatives of the donor shall initiate action to develop new terms and conditions that are mutually acceptable.


Agricultural Service Board Bursary

Post-secondary students whose studies involve an agricultural related program are eligible to earn one of two $500 scholarships.

 
Amount: Two (2) scholarships of $500 each.

*Students must provide written confirmation of their enrolment and acceptance into a post-secondary education program with an agricultural component.

Application: The deadline for applications for the 2012/2013 school year is November 30, 2012.

Albert & Maria Rimer Memorial Scholarship

About the Scholarship

In memory of his parents (Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rimer), Mr. Bert Rimer has provided Leduc County the sum of $50,000 for a scholarship for a student who attains his or her high school diploma from Warburg High School and continues further education, through an accredited college or university, in the field of Agriculture and/or Agricultural/Food.  Secondary consideration will be provided to those students entering the field of Health Sciences (medical field).  The scholarship is to be known as “Albert & Maria Rimer Memorial Scholarship.”

Amount to be Awarded 

The amount of the scholarship shall be determined by the interest accumulated on the scholarship donated during the preceding year.  This amount may vary from year to year depending on the interest rate at which the donation had been invested. Only one award will be made in any one year.

  • have graduated from Warburg High School
  • have declared a major in the field of Agriculture and/or Agricultural/Food
  • secondary consideration will be provided to students who have a declared a major in the field of Health Sciences (medical field)
  • financial need will be considered in the awarding of the scholarship
  • must not have previously received this scholarship

Leduc County will attempt to award the scholarship annually in the month of November, and it would be desirable for a member of the Rimer family to be invited to make the presentation. If not available, then presentation by a member of Council.

If circumstances change so that the award cannot be offered in accordance with the original terms and conditions, Council may alter the terms and conditions of this scholarship.
