Planning & Development
Leduc County Planning and Development provides Planning and Safety Codes related services to residents, the general public, Leduc County Council and other County departments. This department serves the public by promoting and maintaining a safe, vibrant and sustainable living and working environment through the administration of provincial planning and safety codes legislation and local bylaws and policies in a timely, cost-effective and consistent manner.
Each group within the department is responsible for various stages and aspects of land development and building construction.
Long Range Planning
Long Range Planning provides guidance for the future development of Leduc County from a broad policy perspective, formulating and promoting long-term planning policy. The group works with other levels of government, the private sector and the public to ensure the County's planning and development are consistent with local, regional and provincial land use objectives.
Current Planning
Current Planning administers existing approved (statutory) planning documents such as the Municipal Development Plan, Land Use Bylaw, Inter-Municipal Development Plans and Area Structure Plans by making decisions and recommendations on applications such as development, subdivision, signs and Land Use Bylaw amendments. The group is also responsible for Land Use Bylaw enforcement and requests for compliance certificates.
Safety Codes
Safety Codes administers provincial safety codes legislation and construction codes. The group is responsible for the review and processing of building, electrical, gas, plumbing and private sewage disposal permit applications, permit issuance and inspections of work completed. This group also provides code advice and consultations, conducts investigations in conjunction with various local and provincial regulatory agencies and investigates safety codes related complaints.
