Leduc County's Municipal Development Plan describes the vision for Leduc County as a whole. It makes broad statements about the values and goals of the community, the culture of the municipality and the future we see for ourselves. Policies are set out to manage how, when and where change will be accommodated, if it occurs.
The Municipal Government Act (MGA) requires that all municipalities with populations over 3,500 adopt a municipal development plan. The plan must address future land uses, transportation systems, the planning of adjacent or embedded municipalities, municipal servicing and the protection of agricultural operations. It may also address environmental issues, financing of public infrastructure, economic development and social matters.
