In fall 2009, the Town of Beaumont and Leduc County embarked on a Joint Growth Study to provide direction for comprehensive planning of future growth in the targeted area. The growth study process encompassed several steering committee meetings as well as two public events. After several months of discussion and analysis, both municipalities decided in July 2011 to receive as information the report with the findings and recommendations from the consultant. Prior to making any decision on the JGS, Leduc County decided that it would be beneficial to engage in a discussion about growth with the other municipalities in the capital region. This dialogue began in 2012.

Township Road 510 is located between the northern section of the Nisku Industrial Business Park and the Town of Beaumont, 3.2 kilometres north of Alberta Provincial Highway 625. Township Road 510 was identified as a major arterial roadway by Leduc County in the North Major Area Structure Plan to provide a link between the Nisku Industrial Business Park, Highway 814 and Beaumont. As well, Township Road 510 will function to collect and distribute traffic within future developments in northern Leduc County. This road will also become more important as the area develops because it will provide a link between major commercial and industrial centres in the greater Edmonton region. The Township Road 510 Functional Planning Study was initiated to clearly outline long-term requirements for the ultimate design of the roadway within the study area.
