Notice to producers: silaging, mud and the travelling public
The recent wet weather has created unfavourable road conditions and extremely soggy farmer’s fields. Currently, many producers are trying to take silage off of their fields. These wet conditions are not only making it difficult for farmers to silage, but are also creating hazardous road conditions due to mud being dragged from fields onto roads.
The mud poses a public safety hazard, and the safety of our travelling public is Leduc County’s number one concern. We understand the pressure our producers are under, and we want to work with them to ensure the safety of the travelling public is considered while harvesting agricultural crops.
Clarence Nelson, Director of Enforcement Services
If you are a producer and plan on proceeding with silaging activities that may create unsafe road conditions, please contact Leduc County Public Works and Engineering before beginning to silage or as soon as a problem is identified. Leduc County Public Works and Engineering will loan signage for producers to use on roadways and will make sure roads are maintained appropriately for the travelling public.
