Public notice: potentially contaminated water in Blackmud Creek

Public notice: please be advised that potentially contaminated water entered Blackmud Creek last night due to firefighting efforts in Nisku. On Sept. 5, there was a major industrial fire in Nisku. The water from the firefighting efforts ran from the site to a storm pond. This storm pond discharges into Blackmud Creek.

The discharge has been stopped and the water in the storm pond is being contained. Leduc County is working with Alberta Environment on this matter. Leduc County is currently testing the water and awaiting results.

At this time, everyone is advised to stay away from the water as a precaution. This notice extends to farm animals that may use the creek to drink from.
