The Town of Devon and Leduc County are undertaking an update of the Town of Devon/Leduc County Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP). The objectives of the IDP update are to:
Because the scope of the update is limited, the project is expected to be completed and the final plan adopted by the summer of 2021.
What is an intermunicipal development plan (IDP)? |
An IDP is a statutory plan adopted by two or more neighbouring communities to ensure alignment between policies and aspirations of each municipality. In addition, it provides a process to manage referrals and dispute resolution between municipalities. According to the Municipal Government Act (MGA), an IDP is required to contain policies regarding the following topics:
Both the town and the county are members of the Edmonton Metropolitan Region Board. The MGA does not require members of the same growth management board to adopt an IDP; however, the town and county have mutually agreed to review and update the IDP to continue to foster collaboration on planning matters and issues of mutual interest. |
Why are the Town of Devon and Leduc County updating the plan? |
The IDP requires a review five years after its adoption. The IDP was first adopted in 2011, and while the IDP was amended in 2015 in response to the Town of Devon's annexation application and Leduc County’s proposed South of Devon ASP, a full update was never undertaken. This project is the first full update of the IDP. |
