We want to help ensure your community event – whether it is a block party, bike race or other event – is safe and successful.
Community events are held in a public space, like a roadway or park space. We don't consider weddings, funeral processions or events taking place in private, permitted facilities or on your private property to be community events.
To ensure we can provide the support you need to host a safe and successful event, submit the community and special event notification form at least three weeks in advance of the event start date. For recurring events, you must submit a form for each event. Call us at 780-955-3555 for assistance.

If your event – whether it is open to the public or is private – is expected to have more than 250 attendees, you may need a special event licence. Contact our Planning and Development department at 780-979-2113 at least 90 days prior to your event to apply for a licence.
Bike/run/walk race or charity event |
If you are planning a bike/run/walk race or charity event, you must submit the community and special event notification form. You may require Alberta Transportation approval and/or liability insurance if the route includes a provincial highway. |
Block parties |
Block parties can be a great way to get to know your neighbours and develop relationships. Sometimes, these block parties may require a road closure, and they can benefit from the supports Leduc County can provide. If you are planning a block party in a public space or roadway, you must submit the community and special event notification form. |
Facilities |
Looking to host an event in Leduc County? There are many great facilities that might suit your needs, including community halls, parks and campgrounds and private facilities. |
Fireworks |
All individuals discharging fireworks in Leduc County are asked to consider those in neighbouring areas prior to discharging fireworks. The loud sounds and flashes of light caused by the discharge of fireworks can disturb livestock and animals. We recommend contacting nearby residents and informing them of your plans to discharge fireworks so they can take necessary precautions to protect livestock and animals. Further, we recommend you discharge fireworks as far away from neighbouring properties as possible. |
Large or special events (more than 250 attendees) |
Our Concert and Special Events Bylaw requires most events – whether public or private events – with an expected attendance of more than 250 attendees to obtain a licence. Contact our Planning and Development department at 780-979-2113 at least 90 days prior to your event with your licence application (requirements of the application are detailed in the bylaw). |
Parades and processions |
A permit is required for all parades and processions, except funeral processions. You must submit the community and special event notification form to apply for a permit. Funeral processions are not considered community events; you do not need to submit the community event notification form. View our Traffic Bylaw to learn about funeral procession regulations. You may require Alberta Transportation approval and/or liability insurance if the route includes a provincial highway. |
Sponsorship and grant funding |
Whether you're attending hosting a community event or organizing a recreational or cultural program, Leduc County may have a funding opportunity for you. |
