Dust control

If you live beside a gravel road in Leduc County, you are eligible for dust control services. The application of dust control materials is used to reduce dust on gravel roads. Our dust control program takes place each spring. Applications for the 2022 dust control program closed on May 15.

There are two different types of dust control products available - calcium chloride and incorporated petroleum.

Calcium chloride

  • Calcium chloride is a top-shoot dust control product that is applied by spraying the product over the gravel surface. Two applications of product will be completed for every residence applying for this dust control product.

Incorporated petroleum

  • Incorporated dust control is a petroleum-based product that is applied to the road surface and mixed in and packed by graders. It is warrantied for one year from the date of application.

Application deadline

Applications for the 2022 dust control program are now closed.

You can apply for dust control services each spring. Please note this is not a year-round service; the application deadline for dust control services is May 15.

Fees

Review the dust control policy for full details about the fees and eligibility criteria.

Calcium chloride dust control

After receiving a subsidy of $708.50, the calcium chloride dust control service costs $381.50 (plus gst) for the first 122m. If you request dust control for a strip of road longer than 122 m, it will cost $8.93 per metre, plus GST.

Incorporated dust control

After receiving a subsidy of $708.50, the incorporated petroleum dust control service costs $3,791.50 (plus GST) for the first 122 m. If you request dust control for a strip of road longer than 122 m, it will cost $36.89 per metre, plus GST.

Subsidy eligibility

To qualify for a dust control subsidy, you must have a residential property alongside a gravel road. Commercial businesses are not eligible for the subsidy. Schools, churches, cemeteries, community centres, agricultural societies and waste transfer stations are exempt from the cost of this service.
