A kennel is a facility that is used primarily for breeding, boarding, training, caring for or selling dogs or other small animals.
To operate a kennel in Leduc County, you need to apply for a development permit and submit a kennel licence application.
Not all land use districts allow for kennels. To find out if your location allows for a kennel, please contact Planning and Development by email or call 780-979-2113.
Application process |
Your application needs to include the following:
Review the Dog Control bylaw and Section 7.20 of the Land Use bylaw for a full description of all kennel regulations. Application feesView Leduc County's Fees and Charges bylaw for a complete listing of application fees and charges. |
Review and approval process |
We will review your application to ensure the kennel conforms to the Land Use Bylaw and Dog Control bylaw. We will also notify neighbouring property owners and give them an opportunity to review and comment on the proposal. You will receive a written notice stating whether or not we will issue you a development permit and/or kennel licence. |
Appeals |
If we don't approve your development application, or if you disagree with the conditions of approval, you can appeal to the Subdivision and Development Appeal Board. If we don't approve the kennel licence, you can appeal to Leduc County council. Contact us for more information. |
