Road projects and notices

Each year, Leduc County repairs and improves county roads and other infrastructure to allow for safe travel.

2020 construction schedule

Several road construction projects are scheduled to take place this season, beginning in late May. Please note, these projects are weather dependent, and the start and end dates for each project is subject to change.

Arbor Estates (May 19 to 30) COMPLETE

Rehabilitation work in Arbor Estates subdivision

The contractor for this project is Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. Crews will pulverize the existing road surface, cement stabilize the road, place 150 millimetres of granular base course, place down new asphalt and replace culverts.

 Golfview Estates (May 20 to June 12): COMPLETE

Rehabilitation work in Golfview Estates subdivision

The contractor for this project is Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. Crews will pulverize the existing road surface, cement stabilize the road, place 150 millimetres of granular base course, place down new asphalt and replace culverts.

  • Estimated completion date: June 12

 South Wizard Lake Road (May 29 to July 31) COMPLETE

Rehabilitation work on South Wizard Lake Road (Township Road 480) from Highway 795 to Range Road 271

  • Start date: May 29
  • Estimated completion date: July 8

The contractor for this project is Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. Crews will make drainage improvements in select areas, stabilize the existing road and place a granular base course.

Drainage work

July 10 update: drainage work is complete

  • Site excavation to prepare for the installation of embankment drainage (draintube) under the road at two locations.
  • Placement of geotextile (construction fabric) at the bottom of the excavation site.
  • Installation of embankment drainage (draintube). This work is planned to be completed on June 12. This work is weather dependent.
  • Sand material will be placed above the draintube.
  • Waste material will be hauled away and replaced with borrowed material above the draintube.

During the drainage improvements, there will be no through traffic, as the roadway will have an excavation spanning the entire width. The road will be closed until June 24. Note: this work is weather dependent. View the project area detour map.

Spot repairs

July 10 update: spot repairs are complete

After the drainage work is complete, crews will proceed to spot repairs.

  • excavation of unsuitable material to be replaced with borrowed material
  • placement of geotextile at the bottom of excavation site

Rehabilitation work

July 10 update: the road will be closed from July 13 to July 20. Note: this work is weather-dependent. View the project area detour map.

After the spot repairs are complete, the following work will take place:

  • cement stabilization to a depth of 300 mm (the entire road will be stabilized)
  • installation of structural reinforcement (biaxial geogrid) on top of the cement stabilized subgrade
  • placement of gravel (granular base course)

Please note that rain has a substantial impact on this project as it requires time for the soil to dry. One day of rain may require one to three days of drying before work can begin again. We thank you for your patience as we work to complete this project.

Ironhorse Estates (May 25 to July 3) COMPLETE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

Rehabilitation work in Ironhorse Estates subdivision

The contractor for this project is Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. Crews will make base repairs, place 100 millimetres of granular base course, place down new asphalt and replace culverts.

  • Start date: May 25
  • Estimated completion date: July 3 (completed ahead of schedule on June 10)

Range Road 240 (June 22 to Aug. 15) COMPLETE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

Rehabilitation work on Range Road 240 from Highway 616 to south boundary

The contractor for this project is Border Paving Ltd. Crews will complete subgrade preparation, place 300 millimetres of granular base course and place down new asphalt.

  • Start date: TBD
  • Estimated completion date: Oct. 15

Clover Lawn Road (June 22 to Aug. 15) COMPLETE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

Mill and overlay work on Clover Lawn Road (Range Road 233) from Highway 623 to Township Road 490

The contractor for this project is Border Paving Ltd. Crews will make base repairs, mill and fill damaged asphalt, complete crack repairs and place down new asphalt.

  • Start date: TBD
  • Estimated completion date: Oct. 15

South Vista Road (July 27 to July 31) COMPLETE

Mill and overlay work on South Vista Road from Highway 625 to Airport Road

The contractor for this project is Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. Crews will make base repairs, mill and fill existing asphalt with new asphalt and replace culverts.

  • Start date: July 27
  • Estimated completion date: Aug. 20

Township Road 500 (Aug. 31 to Sept. 12) COMPLETE

Mill and overlay work on Township Road 500 from Highway 814 to Range Road 243

The contractor for this project is Carmacks Enterprises Ltd. Crews will make base repairs and mill and fill existing asphalt with new asphalt.

  • Start date: Aug. 31
  • Estimated completion date: Sept. 12

 Range Road 222 (Aug. 15 to Sept. 15)

Spot repairs and chip-seal the entire roadway. 

The contractor for this project is West-Can Seal Coating Inc. Crews will complete spot repairs and then place chip-seal on the roadway.

  • Start date: Aug. 15
  • Estimated completion date: Sept. 15
 Range Road 244 (Aug. 17 to Sept. 15)

Spot repairs and micro-surfacing the entire roadway.

The contractor for this project is West-Can Seal Coating Inc. Crews will complete spot repairs and then place micro-surfacing on the roadway. 

  • Micro-surfacing is completed
  • Repairs are scheduled for Aug. 17
  • Estimated completion date: Sept.15
 St. Francis Road (July 29 to Sept. 15)

Spot repairs and micro-surfacing the entire roadway.

The contractor for this project is West-Can Seal Coating Inc. Crews will complete spot repairs and then place micro-surfacing on the roadway. 

  • Start date: July 29
  • Estimated completion date: Sept. 15
