ALUS Wetaskiwin - Leduc |
ALUS is a program “Where Agriculture and Nature Meet”. The ALUS program was built by farmers and is a model that can grow and fit into local community needs. It helps assist farmers and ranchers to increase or enhance natural areas on their farms which provide solutions to local environmental challenges. ALUS provides annual payments to farmers and ranchers for the ongoing stewardship of environmental projects that produce ecosystem services. Additionally, ALUS provides financial support to farmers and ranchers to establish additional environmental projects on their land. The program is voluntary, and projects are always farmer driven. ALUS supports more than 39 communities helping over 1,760 farmers and ranchers build and actively manage 52,600+ acres of nature-based projects on their lands. Local project examples include:
Join today! In 2023 alone, ALUS distributed nearly $6.3 million in funding to ALUS communities. That same year, 400 farmers and ranchers joined ALUS as new participants, enrolling over 8,300 additional acres in the program, resulting in the creation of new ALUS wetland, woodland, grassland and pollinator projects. ALUS Wetaskiwin-Leduc also receives support from the Alberta Conservation Association |
