Join our team: become a paid on-call firefighter

Leduc County is now recruiting paid on-call firefighters in the Calmar, New Sarepta, Nisku, Thorsby and Warburg fire districts. Applications are being accepted until Dec. 31, 2024.

Paid on-call firefighters provide a vital service to Leduc County. They protect citizens and property in times of crisis 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. They respond from our Calmar, New Sarepta, Nisku, Thorsby or Warburg fire district stations to emergencies throughout Leduc County and in neighbouring communities.

As a paid on-call firefighter, you are trained to provide fire and rescue services, would attend weekly training to maintain your skills and would respond to emergency calls including residential, rural and industrial fire calls and vehicle collisions.

You would receive at least three hours pay for attending weekly training and at least two hours pay for each emergency call you respond to. You do not get paid to attend recruit training; however, it is provided at no personal financial cost and is held on weekday evenings and weekends to not interfere with regular work hours.

Requirements

We need individuals ready to respond to emergencies during the day, evenings and/or weekends. You must meet following conditions to become a paid on-call firefighter with Leduc County:

live and/or work within 19 kilometres of a Leduc County Fire Services station (Calmar, New Sarepta, Nisku, Thorsby or Warburg); this ensures you can meet our response times
be at least 18 years old
have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and your own transportation to get to-and-from the station
have a clean criminal record check (vulnerable sector)
have a satisfactory driver’s abstract (seven or less demerits)
have consent from your employer, if responding to emergencies during work hours
meet the department’s physical agility requirements
be available to attend training sessions one evening per week
be available to attend weekend courses and other training, as required, to maintain skills
