Leduc RCMP partnered with Leduc County Fire Services and City of Leduc Fire Services to get #FreeinForAReason in support of Special Olympics Alberta for its third annual Polar Plunge.
This year was the third year Leduc RCMP team “Copsicles” participated in the Polar Plunge as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Alberta. This year’s event was virtual and started off with a snow angel when the initial fundraising goal was raised. Team captain Constable Cheri-Lee Smith used this opportunity to get creative and invited Leduc County Fire Chief Kevin Lefebvre to take a bone-chilling dip in a 4,000-litre portable water tank and City of Leduc Fire Prevention Officer Shayne Kirkland to spray team members with a water hose. The team consisted of seven participants and a total of $2,215 was raised.
“We are extremely pleased to continue supporting Special Olympic athletes in our community along with our law enforcement colleagues. The support we received in donations is a testament to the amazing community we are part of,” says Smith.
Donations are still being accepted online until March 12, 2022. More information on the Polar Plunge and link to donate to a specific team can be found through http://www.specialolympics.ca/alberta.
