Leduc Transit celebrates more than 94,000 trips in 2018

Leduc Transit’s expanded route offerings and commitment to high-quality service resulted in considerable growth in the number of trips made by riders last year. A total of 94,956 trips were completed on local and commuter routes in 2018, which marks a 16.3-per-cent increase compared to 2017.

A number of enhancements to service levels and infrastructure were also completed, including the addition of Route 10 which stops at Premium Outlet Collection Edmonton International Airport (EIA) and Nisku Costco seven days a week. Route 10 was launched as part of the City of Leduc, Leduc County, the City of Edmonton and EIA’s announcement to enhance transit service to airport lands.

“This was a milestone year for Leduc Transit,” says Kevin Wenzel, manager of Public Transportation with the City of Leduc. “We’re always looking for ways to improve our service levels, and the addition of Route 10 has proven a tremendous advantage for riders commuting to airport lands for work, travel and to shop.”

Leduc Transit and Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) implemented a program for riders to connect from Route 10 to ETS Route 747 with a valid Commuter-plus monthly pass, U-Pass or with the purchase of a special transfer. Through this program, riders have more options for travel between Century Park in south Edmonton and Leduc.

Three shelters, 11 concrete pads and 14 dark-sky friendly solar lights were also installed at existing bus stops to improve rider safety and experience. A total of eight new bus stops were added to Leduc Transit’s system, including six in Nisku.

Leduc Assisted Transportation Service (LATS) saw a 9.1-per-cent increase in trips for 2018, with a total of 31,285 completed trips.
