In an effort to reduce financial strain and support the regional community during the COVID-19 pandemic, transit riders are now able to use Leduc Transit and LATS at no cost, effectively immediately. Enhanced cleaning procedures have been introduced to reduce the potential spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Riders are asked to stay home if they are experiencing cold- or flu-like symptoms.
“We know that people may still need to get to work, get groceries or access essential services, and by offering free service on Leduc Transit and LATS we are hoping to reduce unnecessary financial strain on members of our community and the surrounding region,” says Leduc Mayor Bob Young. “We are in unprecedented times, and the City of Leduc wants to remind all of our residents that we are in this together and we are here to help.”
Effective Monday, March 23, 2020, Leduc Transit will reduce the number of trips, but remain operating with the current hours of service. Leduc Transit will not be charging fares until April 30, 2020; riders travelling from Leduc to Edmonton via Route 10 and ETS Route 747 will need to ask the Leduc Transit drivers for a transfer, otherwise ETS will charge the $5 fare.
Effective immediately, LATS will be operating Monday to Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Early morning service (6 - 8 a.m.) is being added to accommodate stores that are opening early for seniors. Please note that only registered LATS clients are able to book trips. LATS will not be charging fares until April 30, 2020.
The City of Leduc is actively monitoring the ongoing spread of the COVID-19 virus, and following the guidance and direction being outlined by the authorities at Alberta Health Services in order to protect the health of all residents and visitors to our community.
