Public input to help set RCMP policing priorities

Local RCMP detachments thank the more than 1,700 residents who provided feedback on the 2019 RCMP Policing Priorities survey conducted last month.

RCMP from the Leduc and Thorsby/Breton detachments asked residents in the Leduc region to identify three areas they think should be highest priority for local police. A total of 1,718 individuals in the Leduc County area — including the City of Leduc, towns of Calmar and Thorsby, and Village of Warburg — completed the survey.

More than 70 per cent of respondents identified property crime as a top priority, followed by impaired driving (34.9 per cent), illegal drug-related activity (33.3 per cent) and crimes against persons (33.2 per cent).

This feedback will help local detachments set priorities and ensure that, in addition to responding to calls for service, police focus on the issues most important to the people they serve.

With nearly 1,300 survey participants from the Leduc region – including almost 1,000 from the City of Leduc – we're incredibly encouraged with the level of engagement and the feedback citizens have provided to help identify the key priority areas for this region.

RCMP policing priorities will be established by April 30, 2019.

The City of Leduc and Leduc County have partnered with the RCMP to conduct this brief survey to ensure that policing priorities align with those of the public. The RCMP Policing Priorities survey has been conducted annually in the Leduc region since 2015.
