The City of Leduc successfully annexed roughly 1,300 acres (526 hectares) from Leduc County, effective Jan. 1, 2014. On Sept. 6, 2013, the Government of Alberta granted the City of Leduc's annexation request with no objections received by the Municipal Government Board.
The parcel of land approved for annexation includes eight quarter sections located on the City of Leduc's west and south border and 0.08 kilometres of Highway 623 (Rollyview Road).
Leduc County and the City of Leduc completed the public consultation phase of the annexation process in 2012, with open houses held in October/November. In addition, a non-statutory public hearing was held.
The City of Leduc’s Annexation 2014 project is in alignment with the Leduc and Leduc County Intermunicipal Development Plan (IDP) adopted in early 2012. The IDP outlines policies for growth management in the region and sets directives for future annexations.
The last time the city annexed lands from the county was in 1999.
