Information requests

Information requests

In June 2025, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) was repealed and replaced with two new acts: the Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA).

Leduc County follows the guidelines outlined in the Leduc County Information Management Policy, Access to Information Act and Protection of Privacy Act.

When should I submit a request for information under the ATIA?

Many types of information do not require an ATIA request – these include land information requests such as ESAs, or historical copies of permits issued for a particular property.

Please note, ATIA requests are not intended to replace pre-existing processes for disclosing information – so if a process is listed in our Fees and Charges Bylaw, an ATIA request may not be submitted for that information except in very rare cases involving large volumes of personal information.

If you are requesting your personal information, or sensitive information, we may require an ATIA request. If you are unsure about whether your information request requires an ATIA request, please email our Access to Information Coordinators.

Making a land information/ESA information request

You may request information pertaining to a particular parcel of land and whether it has any of the following:

  • landfills
  • a history of released controlled substances
  • ESA reports
  • bylaw infractions
  • fire reports
  • presence of underground/aboveground storage tanks

To request this information, please go to our Civic Access portal and submit an Information Request. If you have questions, you may email Development Services at development@leduc-county.com. There is no need to email other departments.

Making an ATIA request

To make an ATIA request, you need to fill out an ATIA application form and submit it in-person or by mail to the following address:

Leduc County Centre
101-1101 5 St.
Nisku, AB T9E 2X3

What information can I request?

ATIA allows you to request two types of information, as follows:

  • Personal information that includes your own personal details, such as counselling records or records of employment with the County.
  • General information for which we don’t have a routine release process, such as bylaw enforcement actions, fire investigation reports or requests for expenditures.

Is there a cost to making an ATIA request?

If you request your own personal information, there is no associated fee except for photocopying charges in the case of providing you with physical copies of the relevant records.

If you are submitting a general information request, there is a fee of $25 that must be submitted with the application form.

Leduc County has up to 30 business days to respond to your request once the fee has been received and the request processed. This timeframe may be extended in some situations. Please note that the processing of your request does not begin until payment has been received.

The Access to Information Act is provincial legislation that applies to all public bodies in Alberta, including Leduc County. It gives you the right to request access to almost any record held by Leduc County, including records that include your personal information.
