Fire crews on scene at Leduc & District Regional Waste Management Facility

Leduc County Fire Services has handed operational control back to the Leduc & District Regional Waste Management Facility. 

There is still some visible smoke as facility crews work to cover the remaining burning areas with dirt.

There is a 24-hour fire watch at the facility should the situation change, and Fire Services crews will go back to the scene and provide assistance if it is needed.

Thank you to all of the fire crews for helping control this fire.

The Leduc & District Regional Waste Management Facility is open to the public; however, certain areas are closed. Attendants are directing traffic to the open area.

Fire crews - including crews from City of Leduc Fire Services and Millet Fire Services - remain on scene containing the fire at the Leduc & District Regional Waste Management Facility.

Firefighters are protecting the perimeter around the pile, and landfill staff are operating heavy equipment to support fire suppression activities.

There is still significant smoke coming from the scene, but the fire is contained to the pile at this time. 

Citizens can expect to see smoke throughout the day as crews deal with areas that are still burning.

Leduc County is aware of a fire burning at the Leduc & District Regional Waste Management Facility, located at 49444 Range Road 244 in Leduc County.

Leduc County Fire Services responded to a call at approximately 8:20 p.m. and crews are on scene working to contain the fire.

Significant smoke is coming from the area, and flames are visible. Please stay clear of the area and allow crews to work.
