Urban Standards Bylaw

Leduc County has an Urban Standards Bylaw. This bylaw regulates unsightly premises in the East Vistas and New Sarepta to promote safe, reasonable and enjoyable use of properties within the County.

The bylaw specifically addresses nuisance properties, upkeep of undeveloped lands, abandoned buildings, water, eavestroughs and downspouts, outdoor lighting, construction sites, sidewalks and a recreational vehicle storage ban.

Our officers enforce the Urban Standards Bylaw, and violations can result in fines and other penalties.

We would like to remind all landowners of undeveloped, bare or vacant land of the following:

  • Undeveloped, bare or vacant lands must be cleaned by June 30 and Aug. 31 of each year.
  • Cleaning includes, but is not limited to, cutting vegetation, and removing all garbage, refuse, litter or similar debris.
  • Undeveloped, bare or vacant lands may be inspected on or after July 1 and Sept. 1 of each year to determine compliance.
  • The owner or occupant of a property shall maintain the sidewalks adjacent to their property clear of all snow and ice.
  • If an owner fails to comply, the County may arrange to have the land cleaned or snow and ice removed at the expense of the owner.
