In order to keep our residents and workers safe, business owners in Leduc County must comply with the National Fire Code – Alberta Edition. For those businesses that store fuel tanks, you must also comply with all regulations set by the Safety Codes Council. Storage tank permits can be found here.
According to section 7 of the Occupational Health and Safety Code, businesses must have an emergency response plan for responding to emergencies that may need rescue or evacuation.
An emergency response plan must include the following:
These plans must be kept current. We recommend you share your emergency response plan with Leduc County Fire Services, so our crews can best support you in an emergency. Further, we recommend you review your emergency response plan with Leduc County Fire Services; contact us to initiate this review.
Send us your business emergency response plan for review and input.
We offer a lock box program for businesses throughout the county, including those in the Nisku Business Park and at the Edmonton International Airport. This program allows fire departments to use a high-security master key to access a box located outside of the building containing a key to the building. With a lock box, we don't need to forcibly enter a building during an emergency or carry a large number of keys.
The National Fire Code – Alberta Edition requires certain businesses to have lock boxes. If your business meets the requirements, we suggest you purchase a lock box from a local locksmith and mount it at your main entrance. Contact Fire Services; we will visit your business, put in the keys and emergency contact information and mount a faceplate.
